Azaleas

I planted four azalea bushes in
2000. The two in a shade garden next to my neighbor's fence have thrived. These are colorfully visible from the street.
The other two, intended as the centerpiece for an area in the back yard below my bedroom deck, struggled but just couldn't get into flowering.
One shriveled to nothingness several years ago and was overtaken by a Purple Palace Heuchera I had transplanted nearby.
This spring, the second one (which I thought was dead) surprised me with a feeble blossom reaching out from beneath another Heuchera that was supposed to replace the ailing azalea. Hmmm...flower power?

Watercolors

I spent the afternoon creating a watercolor from a photo I took recently. The flowers are zinnias and marigolds from my backyard garden.
